Matt's 1st Father's Day

Sunday we drove up to Bailey, Colorado to celebrate Father's Day with some good ol' bbq at Hog Heaven www.hogheavenbar-b-que.com.

(I'm from Kansas so I know the difference between a place that calls itself a bbq joint because they put bbq sauce on meat and a place that is a true bbq joint-this place is somewhere in between but one of, if not the best, I've tried in Colorado. The truth is, I have yet to have bbq that can compete with Gates www.gatesbbq.com or Bryants www.arthurbryantsbbq.com -my favorite of the two is Gates-I don't like ribs and I LOVE them at Gates.)

Anyway...I digress...

I had the pork shoulder, sweet potato fries and coleslaw-some of the best coleslaw I've ever had!!
~Pork Shoulder: meat B-, sauce D
~Sweet Potato Fries: C
~Cole Slaw: A
*I think it was some kind of red wine vinegar recipe and it was amazing!!

Matt had the brisket (I never order brisket anywhere because my Daddy makes the best...ever, so why set myself up for disappointment?), baked beans and fried okra.
~Brisket: Meat B, Sauce C
~Baked Beans: wouldn't know I hate them so I didn't try them
~Fried Okra: A

Happy Father's Day to my husband, my best friend, the best father a girl could ever want for her child and the only person I can imagine going on this journey, parenthood, with!
I love you Homis!!

~*SMILE*~

And this time I caught it on camera!

A real smile even, not just one of those smiles brought on by well, you know...a REAL smile!! She started this yesterday along with tons of jabbering and I was able to catch it this morning!!

I could just melt ... her gummy little grin is just too cute, and yes, I'm totally biased!

Walking Beauties

Today we met Clare and Betsy at Hudson Gardens for a day of walking amongst the flowers and on the trails along the Platte River.

The weather was gorgeous, what I learned from Betsy, is also called a Blue Bird Day. This means sunny, blue skies and not a single cloud!

This apparently also means that you should apply sunscreen before walking 5 miles on a day like this...epic fail on my part. This ultimately means that I got sun burnt...and am now sporting a Farmers Burn, much like it's cousin Farmers Tan, only red, um...really red!

Anyway, our walk was great and the gardens were beautiful! ! I love that they have a veggie and herb garden-puts mine to shame. Flowers everywhere and pure nature surrounded us everywhere we went.

Look at this:

Our girls did great, sleeping about 99% of the time and of course 100% of the time being the cutie patooties that they always are!

It's days like this that make me so happy to be able to be home for most of the summer with McClellan. I can't believe that she's 6 weeks old now!! I only have 8 weeks left of my maternity leave...boo!

Egg Salad Sandwhich Anyone?

No...I don't have a photo of this one. Why? Well, because it's so darn yummy that I snarfed it down before thinking about it!

If you like egg salad and you like Gorgonzola cheese then you will LOVE this!

**I left out the pancetta because I whipped this up on the fly and, imagine this, I didn't have any pancetta in the house!

This one is courtesy of Giada DeLauretiis - Enjoy!!

Blackberry Muffin Yumminess!

I was supposed to make these about two months ago, just never got around to it. I kept buying blackberries and either they'd go back or we'd eat them before I got a chance, or got the energy and time to make these muffins.

Sunday morning Matt let me sleep while he and McClellan whipped these up-so good! BUT...I have to say, better the the first day warm from the oven.

Enjoy!

More firsts!!

Today McClellan and I went and met Betsy and her daughter Clare-our plan was to take a class called Stroller Motion at the Rec Center, but the class was cancelled-BOO!

So we met at a mutual friend's house who was having a garage sale-it was kind of an unofficial Nestie get-together! : )

Our girls are about 2 weeks apart-Clare being the older. As you can see-they had so much fun they were both crashed out! Actually this is how they were the entire time-about 3 hours!

We took a walk and hung out with some of the other girls...it was great to meet Betsy and for McClellan to have her first "play date", even if they are Mizzou fans! HA!

And, I'll be having a first tonight too!

Tonight will be the first time that I'll be leaving McClellan for more than a few minutes! Matt will be hanging out having some Daddy/Daughter time while I go to dinner with the girls. One of the girls is celebrating her 40th birthday and we're all headed to Texas de Brazil for a meat orgy-yes, you read that right! If you don't know what I'm talking about, take a look at this: http://www.texasdebrazil.com/

YUM ... but seriously...it's insane!!

McClellan has been perfect all day...no fussing and has pretty much napped all day. Let's hope that Matt gets this lucky tonight!!

Not even a half an ounce???

I just pumped, both sides, and didn't even get a half an ounce...

What in the he** is wrong here?!?!?

!@#$%^&*

Ugh ... off to make another appointment with the lactation consultant....

Oh, and truth be told, I've only been taking the Rx twice a day and only at dinner and then before I go to bed, based on the side effects. Guess I'll be starting the 3x day now and hoping for the best...

BOO!
