4 Generations - Memorial Day Weekend

Yesterday we went up to Longmont to Matt's Grandma's house for a BBQ-it was a nice time with his family and McClellan got to meet her Great Aunt Nancy, Great Uncle Jesse and Cousin Luke.

This was our first "trip" out of town with McClellan so seeing us get everything packed up and together was funny to say the least-how many diapers would we need for an entire afternoon evening? How/Where would I breastfeed her?-no, I'm not one of those people who's comfortable doing that in "public.

About the time we were headed out the door Miss McClellan had a total blow out and so that stopped everything and we had to change her completely.

So needless to say, we were late...about 40 minutes late.

Oh well...this won't be the last time we'll be late somewhere!!

It was good to see everyone and the best part was getting these pictures with 4 Generations-Matt's Grandma who McClellan will call GGMa for Great-Grandma, Matt's Mom, Matt and of course McClellan.

3 weeks old today!!

McClellan is 3 weeks old today!! I can't believe it's been 21 days since she was born!!

We'll be celebrating McClellan's 3 week birthday with her Auntie Maegan who is set to arrive later today. I can't wait to see my sister and introduce her to her niece!

My parents were here last week to celebrate McClellan's 2nd week with us - watching them meet her was something I will never forget.

I remember listening to them see Keeton for the first time-they were walking down the hall at the hospital in Salina, Kansas after my sister's csection to see Keeton in the nursery-hearing their excitement and joy was something else I will never forget. Now I was finally getting the chance to introduce my child to them...it was priceless.

Dad stayed for a long weekend and Mom stayed for the full week - there was lots of shopping, lunches at girly places and walk taking with McClellan. To say that McClellan's MiMi & PaPa spoiled her would be a HUGE understatement. To say that having my Mom here for an entire week meant the world to me would be an even bigger understatement.

Thanks Mom & Dad/MiMi & PaPa ... we love you & we miss you already!

1 Week Old - Isn't She Lovely?

Monday was McClellan's 1 week birthday-how did 7 days pass by so quickly?

The past week has been a whirlwind-checking into the hospital on Sunday, May 2 for an induction turns csection equals McClellan's birth, FINALLY getting out of the hospital on Friday, May 7th and then before we knew it-May 10th was here and McClellan was a week old already!

Our day was spent going to a Dr's apt-based on the fact that she had lost 8% of her body weight by the time we checked out of the hospital we had to go to the Dr to check and see how we were doing weight wise. The Dr's weren't all that surprised by the weight loss given her weight at birth, 9 lb 6.6 oz, and the fact that I was breastfeeding...but they wanted to check in on her and make sure that we were making some progress. We're happy to report that McClellan is gaining weight back and apparently all the breastfeeding we're doing is working!!

After our Dr's apt we headed out to JCPenney's to find some warmer clothes for our little pumpkin-Colorado is getting some bizarre winter weather right and we have nothing for her to wear! Ok, I'll be honest, it was 10% that excuse and 90% wanting to go shop for my little girl! We found some great deals and got 4 outfits for $9 with the sales and coupons we had! Whee!!

Our last stop was Sprouts for some much needed grocery shopping-we hadn't been in over a week and had NO produce at all in the house. As you can see, once we had McClellan in the cart there really wasn't much room for the food! McClellan found grocery shopping a total bore and slept the entire time.

Those of you that know me know that my husband is the best...and from time to time pulls off some pretty special little surprises.

McClellan and I were upstairs finishing up one of our feeding sessions while Matt was downstairs doing what I thought was cleaning. He called up and said he had something to show me when we were done and asked me to come downstairs. McClellan and I finished up and headed down to meet Daddy...he had us go to the front room and then "pushed play" on the stereo. Matt had set the stereo up to play "Isn't She Lovely" by Stevie Wonder-we held McClellan and danced, not saying a word, just staring at her and crying.

She is lovely...and He is amazing...and I am truly blessed.

Mother's Day - May 9th, 2010

What a difference a year makes...I remember last Mother's Day, it doesn't seem that long ago at all.

Matt surprised me with a night downtown to the Hotel Monaco and night out jumping from place to place trying out different martini's. He gave me a card that said "I know you're going to be a great Mother one day..." as sweet as it was, it stung a little too.

I'd gotten to the point where I wondered if I'd ever be given a chance to prove his comment right or not. It seemed like it was never going to happen for us. Matt never gave up but I admit I let my mind go there often....and the truth is, we really didn't struggle to get pregnant for near as long as some of my friends and family have. Some would say we didn't struggle at all...

So this Mother's Day thinking back on where we were at a year ago, how I was feeling a year ago...brings up so many emotions.

I am so very thankful and so very blessed. I have a amazing husband who honestly, I thought I couldn't love anymore than I already did and then McClellan was born. He is more amazing as a partner and father than I ever could have imagined. I hear Matt talk to her, watch her interact with her and immediately fall more in love with him.

I look at McClellan and my heart swells so much with love that I worry it may explode. How is it possible that a year ago I was wondering if this day would ever come...and here I am a Mother to the most beautiful little girl in the world? Every little breath she takes, every little wide eyed look, each time she melts into my arms...I am reminded of how lucky I am. Yes even at 3:00 in the morning when it seems like she'll never sleep again, when her cries are louder than I've ever heard, when I've just changed her diaper and within minutes she needs to be changed again...I am thankful.

12 months ago my Mother's Day weekend was filled with martinis, watching the Nuggets playoff games in bars downtown, Matt spending too much money on an amazing hotel downtown and a card telling me that one day I'd be a good Mother.

This year my Mother's Day looked like this-woke up at 4:30am to the sounds/cries of my daughter (I still can't believe I'm saying that) waking up and wanting to be fed. After a semi-failed attempt at breast feeding she and I cuddled in bed and fell back asleep. Soon Matt was walking through the door with flowers and breakfast in bed. All three of us stayed in bed for awhile, just enjoying every minute of this special day. Our afternoon was spent taking McClellan on her first walk and first trip to the park-it was a perfect day.

Last year's Mother's Day was nice...but I'll take a lifetime of Mother's Day's like this years from now on please.

McClellan Wynn Millner made her way into this world.

The manner in which she arrived wasn't the way I wanted it, but all that matters is that she's here, she's healthy and she's all ours.

Our little girl weighed 9lbs 7oz and was 21 3/4" long. Yes...you read that right. She has a little bit of light brown hair and her eyes are a dark blue/grey color right now. She has the prettiest hands with the longest fingers.

She's absolutely perfect...and she's all ours.

Which one of these...

will have a baby in it the next time you see it? Boy or Girl...what do you think?

Well, we'll soon have an answer for you.

Tonight we are checking into the hospital and will start the induction process. I've known about this for a little while but was hoping that things would happen on their own and we could avoid induction-but, here we are, just hours from our scheduled time to be at the hospital, and I'm thinking that's less likely now.

SO...the next time you see one of these outfits there will be a baby coming home from the hospital in it!

Please keep us in your thoughts and prayers and we'll update you all in the next day or two when finally, we'll have a baby on the outside.

My new favorite salad-soooo YUMMY!

My mom got us a subscription to Taste of Home's Healthy Cooking magazine a few years ago-I pulled the spring issues out the other day and decided to try some of the recipes.

Tonight we made "Blackberry Spinach Salad" - it's amazing! The only thing wrong with it is that it's almost gone! Matt and I are going to fight over who gets what little there is left tomorrow for lunch...soo...soo...soo...sooo...darn good!

http://www.tasteofhome.com/recipes/Blackberry-Spinach-Salad

You must try it ... if blackberries are in season then this salad is likely to show up at pot lucks if I'm there. SO...to all my East Side girls, sorry, you can't steal this one for the May cooking club. It's easy and if I'm able to come I'll likely be bringing this! ; )

We have homemade blue cheese/onion stuffed burgers on the grill, homemade oven fries cooking and some asparagus roasting as well-YUM!

We love cooking together and trying out new recipes-maybe one day I'll get brave and take photos of what we cook. Maybe...
